Airborne Assessment Team Introduction
MPD Airborne Assessment Team Introduction
The Milwaukee Police Airborne Assessment Team (AAT) is a patrol led initiative designed to harness cutting-edge drone technology in service to our community. This specialized team uses uncrewed aerial systems to save lives, enhance public and officer safety, and improve operational efficiency. By providing real-time aerial imagery, the AAT can positively impact decision making, guide officers to where they are most needed, and ensure resources are deployed with precision.
Officers assigned to the team are licensed by the FAA as Part 107 Remote Pilots and are authorized to launch for specific police-initiated activities and citizen calls for assistance. These include but are not limited to pursuit related events, violent felonies involving weapons, crime scene documentation, search and rescue operations, and Port or critical infrastructure security. With supervisory approval, officers may launch to assist with other patrol operations and the management of planned and unplanned events, such as festivals, street takeovers, etc.
