Fallen Heroes
Officer Sterling was 31 years old at the time of his death and had served for six years.
Officer Dennis Gorlewski was 50 years old and was appointed to the Milwaukee Police Department in 1960. He became part of the motorcycle unit in 1964. He left behind a wife and two children.
Officer Lesniewski was 48 years old and became an officer in March 1969. He moved to the 5th District in April 1984 after 15 years in District 4 on the Northwest Side. He served four years in the Marine Corps and married his wife Carol when they were 23. They had two daughters.
Officer Collura had been assigned to the 5th District since his appointment in December 1966. It’s where he had grown up and lived at the time. Only two weeks earlier, he switched from the night shift to the day shift, where he thought he’d be safer.
Officer Snow was 29 years old and had served with the Milwaukee Police Department for 6 years. His wife and parents survived him.
Officer Mehlberg was 25 years old, had served as a police officer for nearly four years, and was previously a police aide.
Officer Machajewski was 24 years old and married. His wife was three months pregnant at the time of his death. He served for three and a half years.
Officer Kiefer had been with the Milwaukee Police Department for four years. He was 27 years old and married.
Officer Kohn was 44 years old and had 22 years of service in the Milwaukee Police Department. A wife and daughter survived him.
Patrolman Obradovich was 30 years old and had been on the force for six years.
